WASHINGTON U.S. Senator Ashley Moody (FL) cosponsored Senator Rick Scott’s S.2270 “Myakka Wild and Scenic River Act”.
First introduced in the House by Congressman Greg Steube (FL-17), the bill will designate the 34 miles of the Myakka River within Sarasota County as a Federal Partnership Wild and Scenic River.
"Partnership Wild and Scenic River designation empowers local governments and river managers to further invest in their communities." said Miri Hardy, PhD, Founder of Myakka River Partnership. "Our Sarasota County community and legislators have come together to increase meaningful support of our beloved Myakka River - I am greatly heartened that with Senator Moody’s cosponsorship, both our Florida Senators have too! "
As work continue to advance the bill, Senator Moody’s support is especially meaningful: As a fifth-generation Floridian, preserving our state’s natural beauty is deeply important to her. Aptly, this impactful legislation builds on Sarasota County’s longstanding commitments to preserve the river’s unique ecological and recreational value. Once enacted, The Act will help protect and enhance the Myakka River in Sarasota County for generations to come.
"It was an honor to recently meet the Senator" added Hardy, "and I’m grateful for her commitment to Florida’s natural gems."
